A compound adjective modifying a following noun may require a hyphen.

A complement that follows the noun it modifies should not be hyphenated.

A two-word verb should not be hyphenated
A compound adjective that appears before a noun often needs a hyphen (55a). However, be careful not to hyphenate two-word verbs or word groups that serve as subject complements (55d).
