Director of Graduate Studies in Technical Communication and Rhetoric

The Director of Graduate Studies in TCR helps MATC students with course selection, choice of thesis or nonthesis option, and selection of a thesis committee. This person also completes schedule requests at registration and the program for the master's degree (degree plan).

Thesis Committee

If you elect the thesis option, you will select a thesis committee of two graduate faculty members, at least one of whom must specialize in technical communication. The thesis committee will guide you in researching and writing your thesis and advise you about courses.

Degree Plan

Upon the completion of nine to twelve hours of graduate work, you must file with the Director of Graduate in TCR studies a "Program for the Master's Degree." This form (your degree plan) outlines coursework and plans for meeting the other requirements for the degree. If you have a minor, a representative of the minor department must approve your plans for the minor. The program will be forwarded to the Dean of the Graduate School for approval.

Schedule Requests

The Director of Graduate Studies in TCR must approve your course choices and will help you confirm that the choices meet degree requirements and prepare you for your employment goals. Preregistration for the fall semester begins in late March or early April. For the spring semester it begins in November.
