InterVoice-Brite Our day began with a warm "bagels-and-sugar-donut" reception by 12 members of the staff of over 22 writers at this telecommunications firm. We learned about software and hardware writing as well as management and editing issues. Former Red Raider and program graduate June Kittlitz is pictured (fifth from left in back) with her staff of writers. "Thanks all!"

OpenConnect Systems Our last stop of the day was at the high-tech firm OpenConnect. These are the real folks who invented the Internet (well, at least TCP/IP). We heard all about using Frame to single source HTML help using a tool called WebWorks. Melba Greer (far right) led the discussion of documentation processes, assisted by Barbara Williams (second right), Binion Amerson (third right), and Pete Overton (far left). It was a pleasure to visit Mr. Amerson, who, during his tenure as STC Region 5 Director Sponsor, was a frequent visitor to the Texas Tech STC Chapter. Free soft drinks. |

Dinner with alums at Gloria's
After a busy day cruising corporate job sites we relaxed with alums at a Salvadorian restaurant near the airport. Pictured at third from left is Robyn Hunt-Smith a former graduate now working at MacroMedia, and to her left Danny Seals, currently with MetaSolve. At the far left are Steve and Kathryn Poe, members of the Lone Star Chapter of STC who came out to say "Howdy" Lone Star style. Also pictured is Anne Malone (third from right), currently in the Online Masters of Technical Communication program. |
Whew! The day was just packed. The takings: an imitation Swiss Army knife, a clip on the belt screwdriver kit, a stack of business cards, and some interesting handouts.
